1. Stratford to North Woolwich

Please note the following changes and corrections:

page 26 Looking at Wildlife

Sadly, the beautiful crack willow trees described in this paragraph were felled in the summer of 2014, victims of the ongoing development of 'Stratford City'.

page 29 Along the Channelsea Path

Bullet points 2,3,4  The tarmac path now continues through the Wildlife area to a light-controlled pedestrian crossing of Abbey Road just by the 'blind bend'. The crossing leads directly and immediately to new steps up to the Greenway.

ROUTE

page 34 (2012 edition only) Please note that there is an error in the book at this point . The sixth bullet point in this section should read 'Just beyond the primary school buildings, take the branch to the left which runs downhill and crosses a road (Dove Approach)'. Apologies for this error which has been corrected in the 2013 reprint.

Here is a comment from correspondent Andrew Hunt about this bullet point:

'At this time of year (September) the leaves on bushes and trees are so thick that I did not see that I was passing a primary school and - seduced by Capital Ring signs - kept on until I realised I was wrong when I got to Stansfeld Road. My mistake, but maybe it would be clearer if the bullet point mentioned that the turning is first left through a metal barrier soon after crossing Tollgate Road.'

FACILITIES

There are toilets and a cafe available at Beckton ASDA, just beyond the Globe Leisure Centre (straight on at cross paths and then left).

WOOLWICH

page 38 To join walk 1

This should clearly read To join walk 2 !

The lifts to and from the foot tunnel are now open and working again. The ferry, however, closed for modernisation in October 2018. The work is  over-running significantly and the ferry service is likely to remain out of action for much of 2019.

When the ferry is available again and, if you are using it, the way to join Walk 2 is to follow the ferry slip road then turn left onto the leisure centre service road to reach the Thameside path and the south entrance to the foot tunnel, where the next walk begins.
